Abstract
Motor coordination is a fundamental component of motor development in childhood. It is related to physical performance and the acquisition of motor skills. Its study is important in Physical Education, as it facilitates understanding the level of motor competence and its connection with the development of physical capacities. The purpose was to determine the relationship between motor coordination and the level of development of physical capacities in sixth grade students of Basic Education at San Felipe Neri School. A quantitative paradigm was employed, with a non experimental, descriptive correlational design and a cross sectional approach. Sixty four schoolchildren participated. Motor coordination was assessed using the Body Coordination Test for Children (KTK), while basic physical capacities were measured through the EUROFIT battery. The motor coordination variable did not meet the assumption of normality; therefore, relationship analysis used the nonparametric Spearman Rho correlation coefficient. Demonstrate that the group has an intermediate level of global motor coordination with a moderate amount of variability. Furthermore, correlational analysis indicates moderate levels of positive, statistically significant relationship between motor coordination and aerobic endurance (?=.52). In addition, a strong positive relationship between motor coordination and explosive strength was identified, while a moderate negative relationship between motor coordination and running speed was noted. Finally, there is no evidence of a statistically significant relationship between motor coordination and flexibility capacity. Motor coordination maintains a significant relationship with several basic physical capacities and exerts a positive influence on physical performance. This influence is not manifested uniformly across all capacities. Emphasis is placed on strengthening the development of motor coordination within school Physical Education programs.
