Abstract
To analyze the effects of an adapted recreational swimming program for young people with DS on motor skills in the aquatic environment, using the Control and Monitoring Test of Educational Aquatic Activity adapted for this program. This study employed an experimental design with a quantitative and longitudinal approach. The study population consisted of two young individuals with DS (one male and one female) and six children without any type of disability (five males and one female). The results are presented in tables and graphs comparing the two evaluation periods of the program (pre-test and post-test). When comparing the data, minor changes were observed in participants with DS in terms of body structure and basic swimming skills, in contrast to the results obtained by students without any type of disability. However, homogeneous results were observed across the entire population in the motivation factor. An adapted swimming program can constitute a meaningful learning environment for individuals with DS due to their natural capacity for socialization. Therefore, they can obtain physiological and psychomotor benefits from exercise similar to those of the general population. In this way, these programs can be useful for learning basic swimming skills through didactic, playful, and spontaneous activities.
