Abstract

The present research analyzes the relationship between the condition of informality and the degree of digital transformation in micro-enterprises of commerce in the Bay of Guayaquil during 2025. The study is based on a quantitative approach, with a non-experimental, cross-sectional correlational design, applying surveys to 239 informal traders selected by probabilistic sampling. The instrument used was validated by experts and achieved a Cronbach alpha reliability index of 0.864, which guarantees consistency of measurements. The results show that informality is positively associated with digital adoption (? 0.6), identifying as decisive factors the trust in digital channels, the frequency of use of applications and the development of practical skills, rather than formal academic training. However, structural constraints linked to restricted access to technological infrastructure, financing and training persist. It is concluded that digital transformation constitutes a mechanism of inclusion and resilience for informal businesses, if it is accompanied by basic conditions of technical and financial support. The study provides relevant evidence to design public policies and support programs that promote the progressive formalization and digital inclusion of this strategic sector for the urban economy.
