Innovative Project Management for Enhancing Business Competitiveness: A Case Study of Mario Mera Muebles, 2025

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to analyze how innovation in project management strengthens the competitiveness of a microenterprise located in Quito, which designs and manufactures custom furniture. Despite its history, the microenterprise faced several challenges, such as a shortage of skilled labor, poor strategic planning, limited product innovation, cost overruns in raw materials and inputs, and weak market positioning. These problems affect its productivity, growth, and sustainability. The objective of this article was to determine the relationship between innovation in project management that strengthens competitiveness, such as productivity, positioning, and customer satisfaction. The methodology used was mixed, non-experimental, cross-sectional, and descriptive. A population census was subsequently conducted, given the sample size of 15 individuals, including clients and microenterprise staff. A survey was administered to these individuals to obtain the required information. The research was complemented with direct observation of production processes. The results reveal problems in planning, a lack of innovation culture, and limited technological incorporation. However, strengths were also identified, such as the technical expertise of the master carpenter and the leadership's interest in improving management. It is concluded that innovation in project management allows for optimizing processes, improving results, and increasing competitiveness; however, ongoing training is a critical aspect that needs to be strengthened.
