Abstract
This article reflects on the challenges and epistemological opportunities of developing inter- and transdisciplinary research in the Latin American context, focusing on the intersection between biographical narratives and punk subcultures. The central problem addresses how epistemological, methodological, and conceptual decisions are strained by the historical, political, and cultural particularities of the Americas. The aim is to analyze how a transdisciplinary approach not only expands the boundaries of academic knowledge but also proves necessary for addressing complex phenomena that exceed traditional disciplinary frameworks. The methodology is essayistic and reflective, based on the critical analysis of theoretical sources, the author’s personal experiences as a researcher, and a corpus composed of biographies of Latin American punk musicians. Throughout the text, the limits of institutional discourses, the importance of incorporating situated knowledge and embodied ways of knowing, as well as the political and methodological potential of punk as a research attitude, are examined. Among the main findings, punk biographies are shown to make dissident subjectivities visible and to propose alternative readings of history, challenging hegemonic models of narration and academic validation. The conclusion is that the transdisciplinary approach, far from being accessory, constitutes a critical necessity for imagining more open, sensitive, and engaged forms of knowledge production in Latin America, thereby contributing to disputing the meanings that shape the social, the political, and the cultural from a situated perspective.
