Abstract

This study assesses the technical and economic impact of implementing LED technology in the public lighting system of the city of Méndez during 2025. Currently, the system operates predominantly with high-pressure sodium luminaires, whose luminous efficiency and energy consumption pose both operational and financial challenges. The research adopts a quantitative approach with a non-experimental, cross-sectional design and employs data collection techniques such as documentary review and surveys administered to professionals in related fields. A multiple linear regression model was applied to identify three explanatory dimensions—technical aspects, installation and maintenance, and integration and management—as determinants of the dependent variable, efficiency and savings. The results indicate that the integration and management variable had the strongest influence (p = 0.004), followed by technical aspects (p = 0.045), while installation and maintenance showed no statistical significance (p = 0.216). These findings demonstrate that technical efficiency and economic savings fundamentally depend on the quality of technical design and the degree of integrated institutional management. It is concluded that the transition to LED technology constitutes a strategic decision for energy sustainability and the optimization of public resources, as it generates tangible reductions in electricity consumption and operating costs. Proper planning, supervision, and project control are essential to maximize the technical and financial benefits of this technological shift.
